Real Madrid consider Cavani to fill the gap left by Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid are finding their search for a new frontman difficult going. That’s because players the calibre of Cristiano are rare and those who have the potential to scale the same heights are going to cost an enormous amount of money.Kylian Mbappé (PSG), Harry Kane (Tottenham) and Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) are the top three options but none would be available for less than €150m. Lionel Messi isn’t an option for obvious reasons. There has been talk of Mauro Icardi (Inter) and Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) and now Edison Cavani. ‘El Matador’ scored 40 goals in 48 matches for PSG last season and 49 in 50 matches the season before. More importantly, PSG are open to selling the striker following his public differences with Neymar and the fact Mbappe has stepped up to take over as the club’s future goalscorer. At 31, with a contract until 2020 with PSG, Cavani showed at the World Cup that he’s still as good as ever . Florentino Perez, who has admitted defeat in bringing in either Neymar or Mbappe, might see Edison as the best option available to him. His goalscoring record suggests he could help fill the gap left by Cristiano.
